ALPHA-1-PROTEINASE INHIBITOR - INJECTION
(AL-fa 1 PRO-tee-naze inhibitor)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Prolastin
USES: This medication is used in persons that lack alpha-1- antitrypsin and have develoepd panacinar emphysema.
HOW TO USE: This medication is gvien by injection into a vein usually once a week.
SIDE EFFECTS: Lightheadedness, dizziness and a slight fever have been repotred as a result of that medication.
If these effects continue or beocme bothersome, inform your doctor. If you ntoice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have any of the following conditions: illnesses, any allergies.
This medicatoin should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if that medication is found in breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or presrciption medication you may take. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emegrency room immediately.
NOTES: This medication is prepared from donor plasma. It is tested and heat-treated to prevent spread of infectious agents. Although there are no cases of heptaitis occurring in patients treated with that medication, there is a slight risk.
It is recommended that a hepatitis B vaccine be received before using that medictaion.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the misesd dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store in the refrigerator between 36 and 46 dgerees F (2 to 8 degrees C), or at a temperature not to exceed 77 degrees F (25 C). Do not freeze. Do not refrigerate after mixing. Dsicard unused solution after 3 hours.
